Temple

Pazhayannur Bhagavathi Temple is located at Pazhayannur, Thrissur DT in Kerala. It is dedicated to the Goddess Bhagavathi. The ancient Prathista was Lord PALLIPURATHAPPAN (Lord Mahavishnu) the goddess is seated in the Thidappilli. Once the King of Kochi  such an ardent devotee of goddess went to Kasi for Darsan. In his advice the goddess decided to go over to Kochi . But enroute, the goddess changed her mind and chose to stay there UNNIYALTHARA (Sreemoola Sthanam). Later a temple was constructed there by the king of Kochi who accepted the goddess as the deity of his dynasty. The main festivals are Arattu, Niramaala, Navarathri  Vilakku (temple is illuminated by oil lamps). Everyday begins with the slokas chanted by M.S. Subalakshmi.

    Much importance is given to LORD SIVA in the form of “Vettekkaran”, Ganapathy Lord Sivan & Sastha are also here.

        There is one  “KOMARAM” of Vettekkarappan, always guarding Devi especially  on Festival days.

Importance of “THEERTHAKULAM” (EAST CHIRA)

    Aarat festival is conducted on the eight day of “UTSAVAM”.  Normally based on the Star “THIRUVONAM” in the month of “MEENAM”(Mal: Era).

    In front of the Temple near the road side, a Banyan Tree existed.   On reaching Pazhayannu,r Devi sat at on this place admiring the sanctity of the locality.  Devi’s presence here resulted in the annihilation of all enemies devils and dangerous living beings and blessed the inhabitants.  Sreemoola Sthanam is protected and kept clean as a sacred place  first devotees worship here and enter the temple.  It is near to this place “PALLI VETTA” is held, killing of artificial “PIG” on the seventh day of “UTSAVAM” remembering the sign of saving people from cruel animals.

MULLATHARA

    A special abode for serpants.  Kuruppanmar, a special category of devotees perform Poojas and sing devotional songs.

PATTUKOTTIL (KOOTHAMBALAM)

    This exists at the right side of Devi.  This is where “Bhadra Kali”s (DURGA) presence seen during Utsava Days.  Sometimes “NANGYAR KOOTHU” in the month of Medam (Mal.Era) is conducted, a ritual liked by Durga.  The Devi is requested to wipe of all difficulties of human beings.  The Durga Devi’s presence in the Kalam and the “Palli Val”(Sword) (Vettekkaran Oracle’s divine weapon)kept, denotes Lord Siva’s presence also in Koothambalam.

Devotees are blessed by the Devi to have good thinking and blissful life.
    The building where Cocks are to be during night, facilities to Cocks for taking food, drinking water and safety are provided here.

Sub Temple -  Vettekkarappan Temple

    This temple is 100-125 mts. South of Bhagavathy Temple on the left side of the road leading to Elanad, facing West.  The “Prathista” is Lord Siva’s incarnation.  Sri Dharmasastha is also worshipped especially at “Sabarimala Season” 41 days of mandalam are very important as devotees for “SABARIMALA” come to the temple every day.  The Oracle (Komaram) mentioned above is related to this temple and breaking of coconut, Pushpanjali and Chuttuvilakku are the important Vazhipads(offerings).  There will be group prayer (AKHANDA NAMAM) at the end of “Mandalam”, with poor feeding at the noon.

    Deva Prasnam envisages that devotees going to Pazhayannur Temple should come to Vettekkaran Kavu also to complete the process.
